Ndakaini Half Marathon
My vital body organ that is supposed to help me make rational decisions was overworked and exhausted. My brain, if it was a person, would be completely covered with sweat and bent forward aggressively gasping for air. I was tired. Right along with my tired mind was the rest of the body which quickly followed suit.
That was Ndakaini Marathon. I did 21KM for the first time in a hilly terrain and I finished position 061 under women category. Kudos to me! This was an affirmation that when you set a realistic goal, and work faithfully towards it, you will always achieve your expectations.
For an amateur like me, the hills, rivers crossing and forest, made the scenery so beautiful. The tranquility and freshness took my breath away…..Ideal place for recreation and rebooting the body system.
I started preparing a month to the marathon. As usually, going to Karura forest over the weekend and gym during the week in the evening. I was determined; however, I would get scared at some point. I had never done this before. Nevertheless, ever the optimistic I kept whispering ‘’press on’’! Nothing is impossible if you trust in God, believe in yourself, and work hard towards your goal.
When I survey my own life, were it not for me always hoping for the best no matter what life has been offering, I would be somewhere dying of despair and sorrow! Or dead and buried already somewhere. Life is like Ndakaini terrain. It is never smooth all the time. You have to cross-rivers, run in the forest, go down and up the hill with your head and chin high! Sometimes I get hurt, I disappoint others, I fall down so hard, I bleed, I cry, hurting all over physically and emotionally! Despite all these, there is hope! Keep hope alive.
Well, we all experience disappointments, troubled relationships, rejections, poor job evaluations or test scores, death of a loved one, health challenges, social snubs, and athletic loss. When you’re faced with this kind of situation, go deeper with God.
Friends are essential, but humans can let us down. God said, “I will never fail you. I will never forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5). His friendship have sustained you and me over the years amidst criticism from friends and adversaries, financial challenges, educational disappointment, and broken relationships. This far God has a good track record; it make sense to trust Him.
‘’But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint’’ (Isiah 40:31).
God is above everything. If you hope in Lord, nothing in life is unachievable. Just keep pressing on! Keep running until you reach the goal post and cross the finish line! Even though you finish last, at least you didn’t drop dead on the way.
Do you know life is a roller coaster; just learn how to roll with it and dance to the tune. Sometimes as much as you know things are so thick and you cannot imagine a breakthrough, just assume you are the King or Queen of the universe! With the right mind and right attitude, the whole world will open up to you and life becomes beautiful again. Yes once more life is beautiful…..
Focus on your ultimate goal. That is not the end of your story. Keep enduring until you experience a breakthrough and we will help you celebrate your achievement!
I made it to the finish line! Would you?
